No one loves cleaning the kitchen. Some things get ignored during the weekly cleaning sessions. How often do you clean the inside of your oven, the underside of your stove, or the inside of your fridge?

Are you feeling called out right now? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Cleaning the hidden things can seem like a hassle.

We want to make one of those tasks easier.

We have a quick and easy guide for how to clean a fridge. We broke it down into 5 steps so you can complete it every once in a while with ease! Keep reading to learn how to do your fridge cleanout.

1. Clear Out the Fridge

It’s tempting to clean around the things in your fridge instead of taking everything out and putting it back in. No one will notice the smudges underneath the milk carton, right?

Do yourself a favor and remove everything. Clear out space on your counter so you have room. It’s going to be a big task but you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Check for Spoiled Food

No one wants to do this but it’s a necessary evil. You probably have things in your fridge that should not be there anymore. Now is the time to check expiration dates and do the smell test.

Throw everything out that isn’t going to be eaten. This includes leftovers that you kept “just in case” but you know you’re never going to eat. You’re wasting space and opening your fridge up to bacteria and unpleasant odors.

3. Remove and Scrub The Shelves and Drawers

You don’t want to sit there with the refrigerator hanging open. If the shelves and drawers are removable, take advantage of this. It will make your life easier.

It might be better for you to take your shelves and drawers into the bathtub to clean. They tend to be too large for the average sink and you might end up getting water everywhere.

If they only need a quick wipe with a cleaning product and a rag you can do this right in the kitchen.

4. Wipe the Walls and Door

How do the walls of your fridge even get dirty? It’s amazing how far food splatters can spread without you realizing it.

Give your walls a good wipe down with a damp cloth if you have no obvious dirt or a cleaning product if you have some grime hanging around.

Wipe the door down as well. This is extra important if you have a clear door fridge and you don’t want to put your mess on display.

5. Put Your Food Back

Now that you’ve gotten rid of the foods and drinks that you don’t need to keep around, it’s time to put everything back where it belongs. You’ll free up some space so use this opportunity to organize. It’s a favor to future you.

Be sure to wipe down anything that’s damp before placing it back in the fridge.
